A Practical Vastu Guide for Hyderabad Homes
Vastu drives real decisions for most Hyderabad homebuyers, and it is far easier to design for than to correct later. This guide covers the principles that matter most, and the practical fixes when a layout cannot be changed.
Plot and orientation
North and east-facing plots are traditionally preferred because of morning light, and they command a premium across Hyderabad. But a well-planned south or west-facing plot performs perfectly well — the internal layout matters more than the road direction.
Regular rectangular plots are preferred over irregular shapes. A north-east extension is considered favourable; a south-west cut is the one worth avoiding if you have a choice.
Room placement that matters most
Kitchen in the south-east, cooking facing east. Master bedroom in the south-west. Pooja room in the north-east. Toilets away from the north-east corner. Overhead water tank towards the south-west, underground sump towards the north-east.
Staircases are traditionally placed in the south or west, turning clockwise. In compact Hyderabad plots this often competes with efficient planning, and a good architect will resolve it rather than force it.
Fixing Vastu in an existing home
Most issues can be addressed without demolition: relocating the cooking hob within the kitchen, shifting the sleeping direction, using colour and lighting to strengthen a weak zone, keeping the north-east open and uncluttered, and relocating heavy storage to the south-west.
Structural changes should be the last resort, and never without a structural engineer confirming the wall or slab in question is non-critical.
